Markup calculator
Price from cost with a markup percentage, and see the margin you actually earn. It is a fast way to price stock or materials.
Enter a cost and a markup.
How it works
- Price = cost × (1 + markup)
- Profit = price − cost
- Margin = profit ÷ price
Worked example. A cost of 80 with a 25% markup gives a price of 100, a profit of 20 and a 20% margin.
Common questions
Is a 50% markup a 50% margin?
No. A 50% markup is a 33.33% margin. Margin is always lower than markup.
What markup should I use?
Work backwards from the margin your business needs, then convert. The margin calculator does this.
Does markup include tax?
No. Add tax after you have set the price, at the rate that applies to you.
